How to make Father’s Day special - for free!
Looking for a unique Father’s Day gift idea from the children, for free?! Look no further! I had a little epiphany after designing my “Hanging out with Daddy” Father’s Day card; and the BEST thing is that the kids can help to make it with lots of love (and sticky fingers) and it’s FREE!
‘Hanging out with Daddy’ Jar!
Ask your kids what they love playing the most with Daddy… and what they think Daddy would like to do or play on Father’s Day.
Write these ideas on some pieces of paper, or you could use pieces of lego (we are VERY big on Lego in our household!) and pop them into a jam jar.
Get the kids to make a label / tie a ribbon around the neck of the jar. If you have a baby you could use a painty hand print as the label. Voila!
Daddy or the kids get to pick from the jar when they want to do something fun together - whether that’s on Father’s Day or another family day / weekend.
Here’s some examples of the things we love in our family that will go in our jar:
(There are a few random games which we have made up the names for… so I’ve added some explanations!)
Building a den
Buckaroo (Daddy bucks the kids off his back - gently! And they try to stay on!)
Having a disco / dancing with Daddy
Making ice cream
Going on a hike and being carried on Daddy’s shoulders
Building a den
Play fighting (carefully & preferably with sticks!)
The HOSE game (...this involves Daddy being one end of the garden and the kids the other. They take it in turns to shoot the hose high up in the air and they have to dodge out the way of the water!)
Backies (this is where we draw on each other's backs and the other person has to guess what we are drawing!)
Jumping on Daddy (no explanation needed!)
Movie Spa (We all watch a family movie at home and take turns with the foot spa at the same time!)
BBQ
Running cuddles (Slightly more raucous than the name suggests… the kids choose an animal to be and charge at Daddy! The Rhino usually makes Daddy fall flat backwards to the floor! Rhino is usually accompanied by a hand on their head like a Rhino horn as they charge!)
Floor is Lava (Set up an obstacle course of cushions on the floor and cross the room without falling in the Lava!)
Kissing Game (form a chain of people between rooms and blow / catch kisses from / to each other! The louder and more raspberry like the better!)
...I think that’s enough of an insight into our slightly different family games!
