About me.

Hellooo! Welcome! I grew up amongst an artistic family in Devon, my Mum is a printmaker and my Dad a ceramicist (my brother is a Mechanical Engineer - he got all the brains!). I have always loved to draw and paint with a particular love for rainbows, so much so that apparently my Reception teacher expressed concern that I was drawing rainbows coming out of houses; did I predict the Lockdown of 2020 aged 5?!

Jokes aside, my love of drawing endured and I embarked to London at the age of 19 to study Set Design at Wimbledon School of Art. I had uhmm-ed and err-ed over my choice of Degree, flitting between Set Design and Illustration. However the course at Wimbledon won me over. It was a hugely creative 3 years surrounded by many talented and imaginative people who spurred me on and made me work hard. I fell in love with the bright lights, culture and diversity London offered, and I remained living & working there until 2022 when my family and I moved to Bath, Somerset.

Moonlighting…

As well as illustrating, I am an Art Director in television and film. In my career to date I have worked on a number of successful films and many period dramas (love a period drama!). I’m often to be found with my head in an reference book or on Pinterest (my husband calls it “pin-interest”!) researching Georgian / Victorian / Roman Architecture, knee deep in tea-stained muslin to dress a set with, or cheese-grating velvet curtains to add some texture and aging.

I have always hand drawn my sets on the drawing board, and whilst I have more recently “got with the times (!)” learning some amazing 3D software I still favour this style of drawing over the computer. My work in this field has often been described as an illustrative style; I am a glutton for detail and pride myself in my slightly geeky extensive moulding knowledge! The thrill of overseeing a set from the drawing board through construction to filming really is an amazing feeling.

The beginnings of The Most Curious Kat…

In March 2020 as the country went into Lockdown and the film and TV industries shut down, I turned to my drawing and painting for some solace. I started a collaboration with ‘The Enchanted Nanny’ to provide free printables for parents to help ease the pressure of home schooling and create fun activities for kids to do. This blossomed into an exceptionally successful library of phonics worksheets, colouring, crafting, games and even a Magic School!

Setting up a shop and sharing my creativity was always something I wanted to do, and in November 2020 it became a reality. I have learnt so much on my small business journey so far, and still believe there is far for me to go! I have recently branched out into selling my greetings cards and stationery wholesale to other lovely independent stores in the UK which is really exciting.

With two young children myself, reading is a huge part of our daily routine. I love discovering new tales and new illustrators along with my kids. My dream is to one day illustrate a children's book of my very own… probably with lots of rainbows in!

I am loving the adventures The Most Curious Kat is taking me on, and enjoy sharing the journey with you too! Follow me on instagram or sign up for my newsletters if you’d like to keep up to date with all the fun! Thank you for your support, and happy shopping!
