Mother’s Day memories illustrated

From brekkie and cuddles in bed to a surprise Afternoon Tea at The Ritz (oooh la la!), I asked some of my chums to tell me about their most memorable Mother’s Day and used their stories as impromptu muses for some 10 minute doodles. With some quite comical moments amongst them it was a fun little doodle challenge and you might find some unique Mother’s Day ideas for you too!

(You can see time lapses of the doodles being created below over on my Instagram reels…)

Memorable Mother's Day ideas

What I love the most about Mother's Day is all of the scurrying around that my 2 children do in the morning. They become all quiet and secretive trying to bring me breakfast in bed and double and triple checking that my eyes are closed as they bring in things for me to eat one by one.

One time I was given a delightful platter of fresh fruit, croissant and a full English breakfast. I then looked at their little faces looking quite sad and asked them what was wrong as I was so thrilled and delighted with the wonderful breakfast they had brought me. My son said with a little tear in his eye, "Mama I'm so sorry that we couldn't bring you French toast. We looked everywhere but couldn't find the French toaster."

Mother's Day ideas breakfast in bed

Every mother's Day my three minis wake me up with breakfast in bed ("look mummy, a yummy croissant!") and a magazine to laze about in bed with. They all present me with home made cards and then scamper off to leave me in peace. 10 minutes later they all want to know where their pe kit/games console/hair brush is 🙄

Unique Mother's Day card cuddles

My most memorable mother’s day was probably last year. Hubby was sadly working. So I had the kids all to myself. It was all going so well….. we decided to get the paints out. Of course the content of the paint bottles got poured out whilst I was washing my hands & on asking the ‘big’ little one to wash up his mess in the bathroom whilst I tackled downstairs, I suddenly heard a lot of commotion!

I went in to find he had panicked and there was floor full of pee pee which he had slipped in! At this point we decided to just breathe. I hosed them down and decided it was probably just best to go to bed and call it a day! Reassuring them that we’d all laugh about this next year!

As I was in bed I heard little footsteps and muttering at the bottom of the stairs. I could hear them say “Mother’s day is not over, let’s rescue it, and give Mummy a big cuddle” (total heart melt!) and they both came into bed for the biggest cuddle. We had a giggle and they fell asleep in my arms. Motherhood is hard, but totally worth it. Although not to be repeated (hopefully!). Best Mother’s Day ever!

Surprising my Mum at the Ritz Hotel with my sisters was very special. My sisters came to London to meet me and get dressed up, and my Dad drove my Mum into London. She was so shocked to see us in the Palm Court of the Ritz! Highly worth booking months in advance 😍

Good fun, huh?! Let me know your fave doodle / story in the comments below! I think the “French Toaster” is my fave! Has it given you any ideas for Mother’s Day, or do you have a memorable Mother’s Day story to share? Let me know!

If you’re still looking for a unique hand illustrated Mother’s Day Card, there’s still time!
